TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH BOARD
ABJ40 Travel Survey Methods Committee
Co-Chairs: Elaine Murakami and Elizabeth Greene
New technologies should be tested to see if they can improve survey quality, including reducing sample bias, reducing respondent burden, reducing item non-response, and improving data accuracy. To advance new concepts in technology applications in survey research, including but not limited to:
- positioning information such as GPS, cellular phone tracking;
- web interface design for travel surveys;
- data collection for "process" and "motivations" for travel decisions; and
- techniques to combine administrative records with survey records.
To advance the state-of-the-art, we will share recent experiences with work that may not yet be published, and develop research statements for work we would like to see initiated in the near future.
To develop from one to three research statements to be submitted to: NCHRP, NCHRP Synthesis, or NCHRP 08-36, and to market these research concepts to various entities, including NCHRP, university researchers, MPOs and State DOTs.
